Early treatment

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that kids have their first orthodontic consultation by 7 years of age. Your child’s dental assessment will focus on the growth and development of the upper and lower jaws, as well as problems with your child’s bite, such as a crossbite or underbite. Early treatment helps to make room for all of your child’s permanent teeth and can reduce the need to extract teeth in the future.

Several orthodontic problems, such as overcrowding of teeth, too much space between teeth, and problems with the growth and development of the jaws can occur at an early age. Most children will lose their baby teeth by the age of 13 and within their teen years, the jaw bones will stop growing. Receiving early treatment can prevent your child from having to undergo more complex orthodontic treatments as an adult.
