Loose brackets and poking wires

Poking wires and loose brackets can be frustrating and painful, but as long as you come to Davillier Orthodontics, you or your child is not at risk for any adverse impacts on your treatment.  If you are feeling discomfort due to the brackets, it may be normal but if you feel a poking or loose wires, we encourage you to call us and make an appointment to have your orthodontic appliances examined and repaired.

Sore Gums & Tenderness After Treatment

Sometimes, when you get your braces on or get follow-up adjustments, you may feel general soreness in your mouth and teeth may be tender to biting pressures for three to five days. This is normal, and it can be relieved by rinsing your mouth with a warm saltwater mouthwash. Dissolve one teaspoonful of salt in 8 ounces of warm water, and rinse your mouth vigorously.  If the tenderness is severe, take your usual medication for mild headaches or similar pain.  If pain persists, contact Dr. Davillier for an evaluation.

The lips, cheeks, and tongue may also become irritated for one to two weeks as they toughen and become accustomed to the surface of the braces. You can put wax on the braces to lessen this. We will show you how to use the wax when we give you your kit at your appointment when you have your appliance placed.
